On Tuesday, April 1, the community will vote on a recurring operational referendum question for the WUSD to raise the state-imposed revenue limit by $7 million. If the referendum question is approved by voters, the funding would be used to offset a deficit in the district’s budget to protect and preserve its high-quality instruction and programming, and to maximize school safety. The district is experiencing financial challenges due to rising costs and limited state funding.
The $7 million being sought is not for new spending, building construction or remodeling projects. The last WUSD operating referendum was approved in 2018 and expired in 2023. However, as the result of careful planning and fiscal management, the WUSD was able to extend some funding from that referendum through this current school year.
