Mrs. Staude's 6th grade science students have been working hard for the last 2 weeks creating a car using simple supplies. The first week they got into groups, sketched designs and began the process of creating their mousetrap car. When last Friday rolled around, both the students and I agreed that we needed more time to investigate and solve some of the issues they were experiencing. Critical thinking, Diagnosis and coming up with new prototypes were just some of the challenges the kids endured while conducting this project.
The amount of endurance and perseverance took strain on the kids. However, that endurance and strength to keep going , allowed some of the students to create a better, stronger and more reliable car that continues to work every time they run it for testing. The teachable moments from this project were amazing to be part of and proves that science shouldn't be about a quick lesson or video but rather collaboration of minds coming together to create an amazing outcome such as this one! I'm proud and honored to be with such resilient students and continue to cheer them on when struggles arise.
