Casey Rusch-Weiland

The WUSD is proud to introduce Casey Rusch-Weiland as the new Principal of Schurz Elementary School. Now entering her 14th year in education, Rusch-Weiland began her career with the WUSD three years ago as the RMS Dean of Students, succeeding current RMS Associate Principal Mike Cunningham in that role. Prior to joining the WUSD, Rusch-Weiland was a Special Education instructor in the School District of Milton for 10 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Cardinal Stritch University. This summer, Rusch-Weiland completed her Director of Special Education licensure through Viterbo University.

Rusch-Weiland says that throughout her career, she has been passionate about fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically and socially. “One of my core beliefs is that collaboration between families, educators, and the broader community is essential for student success,” she said. “I am committed to ensuring that Schurz Elementary School continues to be a place where students feel safe, inspired, and motivated to achieve their highest potential.”

Outside of work, Rusch-Weiland enjoys spending time with her husband and their 9-year-old daughter. “We love playing with our two energetic dogs, swimming, and sharing our love for reading,” she said. “I’m a proud Wisconsin sports fan, so I cheer passionately for the Brewers, Packers, Bucks, and Badgers!”

“I am excited to work with our team at Schurz to build relationships with our students and their parents,” Rusch-Weiland added. “Together we will continue to create positive and enriching school experiences for our students - I am confident we will make this school year a fantastic one for everyone at Schurz Elementary School.”
