The Watertown Unified School District’s Strategic Planning Workgroup held its fourth and final meeting on July 23, wrapping up its efforts toward developing the district’s next strategic plan.

At the meeting, participants discussed the district’s mission, vision, and core values. They then took part in an activity focused on strategic priorities and goals. The group was able to achieve consensus on these important items, which will be incorporated into the final version of the strategic plan.

“We would like to thank our Strategic Planning Workgroup for their outstanding effort, dedication, and thoughtful input over the past several months,” said Superintendent Dr. Jarred Burke. “Through this process, we have been able to gain insights from all corners of our community. This will allow us to create a strategic plan that reflects our community’s core values and drives our district forward in a meaningful way.”

The strategic planning process is focused on outlining a path to sustainability and growth for WUSD in the years to come. In driving the process, the workgroup has been focused on the key areas of student performance and growth, educator quality, community engagement, and facilities and operations.

The process began this past spring with a series of focus groups with district leaders. Community and staff engagement sessions were also held to further gather thoughts on the district's future direction. Dr. Lori Mueller of the Donovan Group facilitated the strategic planning process, including all focus groups and workgroup meetings.

“Our shared commitment to excellence ensures we will continue to build on our rich traditions while embracing the future with confidence and creativity,” said Dr. Burke. “Together, we are shaping a bright future for our district and community, rooted in tradition, fueled by innovation, and driven by transformation.”

District leaders and the Donovan Group team will now take the insights and information gathered from the workgroup meetings to create a comprehensive strategic plan for WUSD. The plan will be ready for the community’s review in the coming weeks. It will also be formally presented to the Board of Education for its review and approval.
