To help offset the cost of the trip for students, the WHS Music Department will hold its first-ever mattress fundraising event on Saturday, August 10, from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the WHS Commons.
During the sale, high-quality mattresses manufactured right here in Wisconsin will be sold at deep discounts with a portion of sales going toward trip expenses. If you are planning to replace your mattress in the near future, please consider buying a new one at this event. Please mark your calendar for August 10 and help us spread the word! Congratulations to the Watertown High School Class of 2024! On Saturday, June 8, more than 290 seniors crossed the stage to receive their diplomas in front of a packed field house of family and friends. The graduation ceremony was a wonderful celebration of our students, as well as the teachers, staff, parents and caregivers that have supported them along the way.
From WHS Athletics: There have been multiple requests for a fan bus for tonight’s Softball Semi-final State game. We will provide a free fan bus to include WHS Students and their families (and WHS staff) as an alternate to the traffic and limited parking at Goodman Diamond. Here is the info:
Bus departure TODAY from WHS: 5:00 pm sharp (game time is 7:00 pm)
Cost: FREE. Voluntary donations will be accepted to help offset the cost
Sign up is REQUIRED NO LATER THAN 2:00 pm on Friday, June 7th so that we can plan accordingly for the number of buses. Please note there is limited availability and seats on the bus will be reserved on first come, first served basis.

Students Earn Global Seal of Biliteracy
Emily Arredondo-Galvan, Mariana Cabrera Canenguez, Michelle Jimenez, Odibel Campuzano, and Viridiana Velez, seniors at Watertown High School, have earned the prestigious Global Seal of Biliteracy. The Global Seal of Biliteracy is an international language certificate that recognizes and celebrates their level of proficiency in two or more languages. The Global Seal of Biliteracy enables programs and businesses across the world to quickly validate a student’s language skills to aide in advanced placement in a post-secondary language program, help students earn scholarships, and provide opportunities for employment. The Global Seal of Biliteracy allows employers to easily verify students’ language skills and be confident that they possess valuable soft skills linked to multilingualism.
In today’s global economy, proficiency in multiple languages has tremendous value. We are proud that Emily, Mariana, Michelle, Odibel, and Viridiana of the Watertown Unified School District are now part of this global community of multilingual individuals. We congratulate our students on this significant achievement and look forward to seeing the opportunities that their Global Seal of Biliteracy will bring them in the future.
As Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close, we reflect on our theme of “Together for Mental Health.” Our goal as a District is to continue to work toward not only awareness, but acceptance, that mental health plays an important role in our daily lives. Congratulations to the Watertown High School Forensics team on an incredible performance at the WISDAA State Competition on Saturday, April 20 at DeForest High School. The following students earned a gold medal: Caroline Belisle, Julian Byrne, Riley Runke, Elliott Small, and Olivia Sorenson. The following students earned a silver medal: Sophia Anderson, Caleb Lemke, Alondra Lopez, Drew Kaufmann, Alexa Muza, Ciara Schreiber, Lily Small, and Sophie Sullivan. Congrats on a wonderful season!
The WUSD Student Services team recently toured the newly-opened Matz Center located on Milford Street in Watertown. The Matz Center is a youth crisis stabilization facility for children aged 10-17 in need of residential short-term mental health programming in a supportive and structured environment. During the tour, the student services team held a collaborative discussion regarding youth mental health and resources for parents and guardians. In addition, they discussed the different responsibilities of student service educators, mental health professionals, and parents/guardians in meeting the needs of children.
Today was the the 6th Annual Career Fair at the WHS, put together in coordination with the Watertown Chamber of Commerce and WHS. The goal of the event is to bring students and employers together from the Watertown area. The purpose is to provide connections and conversations with opportunities post-graduation for students. This year, there were 81 area employers who took time out of their busy schedules to be a part of this event.
A huge #WatertownWay shout out to the Watertown Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and WHS staff for the work and effort put in to make this a great event for our students!
On Tuesday, March 12th, WUSD hosted the first ever Multilingual Family Night. District EL staff partnered with the Watertown Chamber of Commerce to put on an event at the Watertown Public Library that connected multilingual families to community businesses and resources. Over 100 people attended the event along with 20 businesses and the Watertown Police and Fire Department. Members of the National Spanish Honor Society also participated and created art projects with the children in correlation with the story "The Dot." Both Watertown families and businesses felt that it was a wonderful opportunity to connect and strengthen relationships within the community.
Candidates running for a seat on the Watertown Unified School District Board of Education will have an opportunity to introduce themselves to the community at the Board’s next regular meeting on Monday, March 18, at 6 p.m. at the Educational Services Center, 111 Dodge St.
Presently, there are five candidates seeking three open seats on the board. The candidates include Julie Janowak, Tina Johnson (I), Dan Voeltner, Charity Chandler, and Samuel Ouweneel. Each candidate will be given three minutes toward the start of the Board meeting for introductions. The election will take place on Tuesday, April 2.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jarred Burke said he appreciates the willingness of Watertown area residents to run for a seat on the school board. He said the District is presently facing, and will continue to face, complex issues related to funding, staffing and enrollment.
“The Administration and Board are working hard to set the direction and vision of the district,” said Burke. “We are excited for the community to be able to learn more about the candidates’ skills and the new ideas they could bring to the table as board members.”

Last week, WHS Student Council hosted Dude Be Nice Week! They honored Officer Evan Bresser by decorating his office and giving him a small gift! Student Council celebrated with other activities throughout the week!
