Referendum collage

Dear WUSD Families,

I am writing to share that, based on preliminary election results, the operational referendum question that was on the ballot for the Watertown Unified School District fell short of being approved by voters on April 1.

As a result, we will need to make decisions that will impact students, staff, and the community as we look to balance our budget. This will likely include the elimination of programs and services for students, along with numerous teaching and other positions.

We remain grateful for the productive conversations we have had regarding the future of the WUSD over the past several months. We hope this high level of engagement continues as we move forward with future decision-making.

We will remain focused on building a culture that is student-driven and data-informed. We value our partnership with our staff, families, and community in doing this essential work on behalf of our students. We will continue collaborative discussions and engagement to provide our students the best educational experiences available within our budgetary constraints.

In the meantime, thank you for your consideration of yesterday's referendum question.

Yours in Education & Community,

Dr. Jarred Burke
Superintendent
