Jerome Herried Award

The Jerome Herreid Science Award is presented to outstanding seniors in the field of science. Mr. Herreid served on the faculty of Watertown High School from 1930-1966. He taught several areas but his main interest was physics. Throughout his career, Mr. Herreid maintained high standards for his students. So, in order to receive this award, a student must have shown high scholastic ability in all areas of science: biology, chemistry, physics and advanced science; high achievement in relation to ability; leadership in class and school activities; true loyalty and dedication to Watertown High School; and a good wholesome attitude toward fellow students and adults. The award itself consists of a bronze Science Medal designed by former physics teacher, Jim Huhn and based on a patch designed by astronaut Dan Brandenstein for his Space Shuttle Mission. Commander Brandenstein is a WHS alumnus and veteran of four Space Shuttle Missions, three of which he commanded. Past Herreid award winners have gone on in various fields of science including; medicine, chemistry, microbiology and engineering. A list of past winners is noted below:
